Most of the results from the first round matched fans’ predictions — except for one: Eternal Fire vs. NIP. Most fans believed NIP would win, but Eternal Fire came out strong and took the victory with a score of 13-11. In the second round, Eternal Fire faced G2 and pushed the game to overtime, ultimately losing 16-13. Meanwhile, NIP played against AMKAL and once again shocked everyone by losing 22-20, completely shattering predictions.
Heading into the third round, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, NaVi, and Virtus.Pro all stood undefeated at 2-0, while teams like SAW, NIP, Into the Breach, and 3DMAX sat at 0-2, teetering on the edge of elimination. SAW managed to rally and defeated NIP 2-0, earning their first win. Unfortunately, this made NIP the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.
This incident deeply disappointed the fans of the NIP team, and some individuals even went so far as to send threatening messages to the players. Team member k0nfig shared on his Twitter that he received many disturbing messages telling him to “kill yourself” and “go die.”
Following that, fnatic’s loss in the fourth round also went against public expectations. Many had believed they would secure a definite spot at the Major, but with one win and three losses, they now have to compete in the Last Chance Qualifier for the final slot.
In Group A, the unexpected eliminations included teams like NIP and fnatic, while the surprise qualifiers were KOI, SAW, and AMKAL. Notably, SAW’s player MUTiRiS, who had been competing for over 10 years without ever making it to a Major, will finally get his first appearance — a significant milestone.
Here are the 8 teams that qualified for the Major from Group A, as well as the 3 teams heading to the Last Chance Qualifier:
