The MongolZ Conquer MESA Nomadic Masters 2024 Spring
During the past weekend, the final stage matches of the MESA Nomadic Masters 2024 Spring tournament took place at Steppe Arena.
Out of the 8 teams that participated, OG Esports and Gaimin Gladiators were eliminated during the LAN studio matches. In the first match held with a live audience, ATOX Esports lost to Lynn Vision and exited the tournament. In the next match, Chinggis Warriors lost to Team Aurora and also left the tournament.
Thus, The MongolZ, BLEED Esports, Team Aurora, and Lynn Vision remained in the competition. The MongolZ defeated BLEED Esports in the upper bracket final and advanced to the grand final. Impressively, they won all three of their matches without dropping a single map, finishing each with a 2-0 score.
On the first day’s final match, Lynn Vision faced Team Aurora. The Russian team won, leading the Chinese team Lynn Vision to place 4th in the tournament and take home $10,000.
The second day of the tournament began with the lower bracket final between Team Aurora and BLEED Esports. It was an intense series that went to three maps, with BLEED Esports ultimately winning and advancing to the grand final.
As it was the final day of the tournament, a showmatch was held in between the main matches. Two mixed teams—Team AVE and Team MESA—were formed and played on a shrunken version of the Mirage map.
- Team AVE: dobu, salazar, F1KU, Zilkenberg, Ne0kai
- Team MESA: KENSI, ImpressioN, xerolte, MoDo, KEi
Then came the grand final that fans had eagerly awaited. In this Best of 5 series, BLEED Esports took the first map, intensifying the competition. However, The MongolZ won the next three maps in a row, securing the championship of MESA Nomadic Masters 2024 Spring with a 3-1 score.
For MESA, organizing the tournament independently showcased to major international organizations that it’s possible to hold an S-tier tournament of this scale in Mongolia.
The day after the tournament, The MongolZ headed to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for their next stop: the YaLLa Compass 2024 tournament. In order to participate, they withdrew from the ESL Challenger League S47 and decided to earn points to qualify for the ESL Pro League S20 instead.
Meanwhile, the ESL Challenger League S47 playoffs began, with domestic team ATOX starting off their upper bracket matches with high intensity. Their first opponent was the Russian team -72c, followed by another Russian-based team, GR Gaming.
After the first two days of matches, ATOX Esports faced Lynn Vision in the upper bracket final, with the winner of the match earning the first spot in the ESL Pro League S20 tournament. Just a few days after competing at the MESA tournament, the two teams met again, giving ATOX a chance to get their revenge.
They prioritized participating in the tournament and traveled to Vietnam, from where they played all their matches online. ATOX Esports started strong by winning the first map, Inferno, with a score of 13-5. However, Lynn Vision equalized the series by winning the second map 13-10. The final map was Ancient, where thanks to outstanding plays by MiQ and Annihilation, ATOX Esports won with a score of 13-7.
Thus, ATOX Esports secured the first slot for the ESL Pro League S20 tournament, which marks their debut in an S-tier level competition. However, their tournament journey is not over yet, as they are now waiting in the grand final for the team that will come up from the lower bracket. Their next match is scheduled for Sunday evening at 20:00.
Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, the group stage matches of the YaLLa Compass tournament have taken place. The MongolZ defeated Sashi, ENCE, Heroic, and Ninjas in Pyjamas in their group, but lost to Astralis. As a result, they advanced from their group in first place. This placed them directly into the tournament semifinals, and they are set to face the winner of BetBoom vs. Astralis on June 8th at 21:00.
They will finish the tournament on Sunday and fly directly from Abu Dhabi to Jönköping, Sweden, where they will participate in the ESL Challenger Jonkoping tournament starting from June 14.
